Get to Know Our History

Derek and Julie both grew up in Beavercreek and, in 1997, decided to open a chiropractic practice in their hometown. Derek, a second-generation chiropractor, enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduating from high school, completing many of his undergraduate courses during his service. Derek was later transferred to Edwards Air Force Base in California. After completing four years in the military, Derek pursued his chiropractic education at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC), graduating in 1994.

Julie built an extensive career in the hospital setting at Miami Valley Hospital, working in administrative positions across multiple departments. This experience provided her with valuable knowledge of healthcare operations. She later chose to leave the hospital setting to help establish their new practice.

Their first location, Beavercreek Chiropractic & Injury Treatment Center, Inc., was on Dayton Xenia Road and offered chiropractic care exclusively. After a year in practice they began searching for a property that would allow them to expand. In 1998, they purchased their current property and began planning for a new facility. Construction started in 2001. The new office was completed in September 2002.

During the planning phase, Derek and Julie sought to bring something new to the chiropractic field. They incorporated a Hydroworx pool to serve patients with back issues, athletes, and post-operative patients unable to participate in land-based physical therapy. The new facility was 8,000 square feet, with approximately 4,000 square feet initially built out for the clinic and the remainder leased to a sports acceleration company. Over time, they expanded services to include massage therapy and physical therapy, establishing themselves as a step above traditional chiropractic offices in Ohio.

As the practice continued to grow, they transitioned to an integrated care model in 2017, offering a blend of holistic and traditional healthcare services. This change allowed patients to receive comprehensive care within one facility. At that time, they added another chiropractor and a nurse practitioner, rebranding the clinic as Advanced Medical & Wellness Center, Inc.

In 2016, their son Dylan joined the practice as a chiropractic assistant while completing his undergraduate studies. He later attended Logan College of Chiropractic, becoming the family’s third-generation chiropractor. Dylan graduated in August 2023 and began practicing as a chiropractic physician in December 2023. His arrival prompted further expansion, utilizing the full 8,000 square feet of the building to enlarge the physical therapy department and add additional treatment rooms and offices.

Today, the practice includes three chiropractors, one physical therapist, two physical therapist assistants, four massage therapists, two nurse practitioners, and a medical director. Derek and Julie remain committed to serving the Beavercreek community, continually expanding services to provide the highest level of patient care.

Chiropractic is one of the more widely used and accepted practices within alternative medicine. Its level of acceptance in the United States has increased in recent years, as partially evidence by widespread health insurance coverage for chiropractic care. Many types of musculoskeletal conditions are the reasons patients seek out the treatment from a chiropractor.

We have been serving the people of the Beavercreek area as Beavercreek Chiropractic and Injury Treatment Center since 2002. As of 2018 we have officially changed from Beavercreek Chiropractic and Injury Treatment Center to the Advanced Medical & Wellness Center (AMWC). With this name change comes a shift in the paradigm of your healthcare. We strive to be the one-stop-shop for all your healthcare needs. That means incorporating several different healthcare models and providers such as physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and medical professionals.

Today the health landscape of the United States faces problems like large aging populations, the increase of chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, and heart disease, low back disability from pain, chronic migraines, and many others. In other countries healthcare professionals are also concerned with increasing health problems but also simple access to basic health care for diverse populations. In Brazil, for example, health teams train to intimately understand the needs of patients, but also of local communities and different cultures. Researchers have found that health care professionals working together reduce the number of medical errors and increases patient safety. No longer is one person responsible for the patient’s health; today, an entire team of health workers can come together to coordinate a patient’s well-being and that is happening right here in Beavercreek at the Advanced Medical & Wellness Center.

Now, by incorporating a team approach with multiple disciplines in the same facility we are able to provide collaborative comprehensive treatment for the care of our patients, what results is better outcomes, faster recovery, and patients getting back to the activities that they love.
