Spinal Decompression / Traction

Traction therapy is a non-invasive treatment that gently applies mechanical forces to the spine to create space between the vertebrae. By reducing pressure on intervertebral discs, spinal joints, and nerve roots, traction can help decrease pain, relieve nerve irritation, and improve overall spinal mobility.

This therapy is commonly used in the management of conditions such as:

  • Lumbar disc herniation or bulging discs
  • Cervical disc herniation or stenosis
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Sciatica or nerve root compression
  • Radiating pain or numbness in the arms or legs
  • Chronic low back pain
  • Facet joint dysfunction

During treatment, a specialized traction table or mechanical device applies a controlled pulling force to the spine. This force helps to:

  • Reduce pressure within the discs, encouraging retraction of herniated or bulging material
  • Improve circulation to spinal structures, supporting the body’s natural healing processes
  • Stretch muscles and ligaments to reduce stiffness and improve flexibility

Traction therapy is often combined with other rehabilitation techniques, such as targeted exercises, manual therapy, and posture training, for optimal results. Sessions are typically comfortable, and many patients report a sense of relief during and after treatment. When incorporated into a personalized treatment plan, traction can be a valuable, non-surgical approach for reducing pain, restoring mobility, and enhancing quality of life.
